Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary’s Bright Spot for 2025 is the school’s band program. The band currently has 64 students. Mr. Arp, Band Director, has received numerous grants to build the program from virtually the ground up in the past three years. Most recently, the band performed for the first time at SEDBA Music Performance Assessment, and 8th grader Anthony Vasquez became the first RHM student to perform at Honor Band, both held at UNC Pembroke.
Mr. Arp is immensely proud of his students, saying, “Our band students are hard-working, dedicated problem solvers who continue to show that they’re up to the task of being musicians. I have nothing but pride for my students, and I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments they will continue to achieve.”
Our Future Teachers Club promotes the teaching profession and all related careers. The goal is to increase the number of licensed teachers for Duplin County Schools. Members of the Future Teachers Club have the opportunity to serve in classrooms as student assistants. Their duties may range from copying papers, making bulletin boards, reading to students, or working in small groups with students on academic skills. This past February, Rose Hill Magnolia Elementary collaborated with Warsaw Elementary for a unique visit to UNC-Wilmington’s Watson School of Education. Students were greeted by the Watson Recruitment Specialist and Duplin County native, Mr. Dean Heath, who provided a tour and information on various educational and scholarship opportunities afforded to individuals interested in the field of education. Anna Marie Jones, FTC member shares,“The Future Teacher Club has taught me so much. The trip to UNCW’s School of Education impacted me greatly by showing me that many other teens like myself have an interest in education and that there can be a future for me in that field.”
When I grow up, I want to be a nurse so that I can help others. My mom is a nurse and I think it is fun. I like everything about school. I like doing Heggerty, learning new things, and working with my partner. My school is special because I get to see my friends and play with them.
This year, I have had the opportunity to apply to Duplin Early College High School and learn about different career pathways by going on field trips. I like being able to be myself and express my creativity. I also like my online Math I class because of the independence and responsibility it gives me. My school is special because this is the place I have been my whole life. I have had the best experiences and have met awesome friends and teachers that have impacted my life. There will never be another school like Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary.
"Duplin County Schools feels like home. As a DCS family, we strive to build relationships beyond the classroom and school. This has fostered opportunities for students with disabilities in the community. Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary is a place where students, no matter their ability, have a place to belong. Here, students with disabilities are not just acknowledged but accepted. As a special education teacher, I get the opportunity to foster acceptance through instruction, student support, and school-wide activities. As a mentor, I get to support teachers with lesson planning and instructional practices that extend opportunities for students with disabilities. I am so thankful to call Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary home."
